Scientists seek blood test to replace liver biopsy for silent fatty liver disease
NCT ID NCT07172997
Summary
This study aims to develop better, non-invasive tests to screen for, diagnose, and monitor fatty liver disease (MASLD) in people undergoing weight-loss surgery. Researchers will also look for markers in the blood that might predict if a patient's type 2 diabetes goes away after surgery. They will follow 163 patients in Bahrain, collecting blood samples and scan data before surgery and at 6 and 12 months after, to create a new scoring system that could replace the need for invasive liver biopsies.
