Scientists probe Gut-Liver link in hepatitis c damage

NCT ID NCT02400216

Summary

This study aimed to understand how bacteria from the gut might move into the liver and bloodstream in people with hepatitis C-related liver disease. Researchers enrolled 30 adults with stable hepatitis C and varying levels of liver scarring. Participants underwent detailed testing, including liver biopsies, blood draws from a liver vein, MRI scans, and stool sample collection, to measure bacterial presence and the body's immune response.
