Hidden liver damage from HIV drugs under the microscope

NCT ID NCT00326482

Summary

This study aimed to understand how HIV medications might cause long-term liver damage and scarring. Researchers enrolled 127 HIV-positive adults who had been on stable HIV drug regimens for at least a year and had elevated liver enzymes for six months. They performed detailed tests, including liver biopsies, to look for and measure liver scarring, hoping to learn how to better monitor and manage this side effect.
