New hope for kids with failing livers: drug combo aims to stave off deadly complications

NCT ID NCT06091345

Summary

This study tested whether adding the protein albumin to the blood pressure medication midodrine works better than midodrine alone to prevent serious complications in children with advanced liver cirrhosis and fluid buildup in the abdomen. The goal was to see if the combination could reduce problems like kidney injury and brain fog, and help children survive longer without needing a liver transplant. Researchers compared the two treatments in 61 children over six months.
