Can a common liver procedure actually reverse scarring?

NCT ID NCT07172035

Summary

This study is investigating whether a standard medical procedure called TIPS, used to treat complications of advanced liver scarring (cirrhosis), can help the liver partially heal itself—a state called 'recompensation.' Researchers will follow 250 patients with cirrhosis who receive the TIPS procedure to see how many achieve this improved liver function within a year and whether it lowers their risk of liver cancer or death. The goal is to understand if this established treatment can do more than just manage symptoms and potentially help control the underlying disease.
