Could a common pill ease the swelling of failing livers?

NCT ID NCT05726032

Summary

This study is testing whether empagliflozin, a medication typically used for diabetes, can help reduce dangerous fluid buildup in the abdomen (ascites) of people with advanced liver scarring (cirrhosis). Researchers will give the drug or a placebo to 20 patients for 14 days to see if it helps the body remove excess salt and water. The goal is to find a new way to manage this serious complication and improve kidney function in these patients.
