New radiation technique targets hard-to-treat liver tumors

NCT ID NCT05053555

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests a type of internal radiation called high-dose-rate brachytherapy for people with liver tumors that cannot be removed by surgery. The treatment uses a tiny radioactive source placed directly into the tumor to kill cancer cells while sparing nearby healthy organs. The goal is to control the disease and improve outcomes for patients with larger or tricky tumors that standard heat-based treatments can't handle.
