Can a safer lithium slow Alzheimer's? new trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07459959
First seen Mar 24, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This early-stage trial will test whether a form of lithium called lithium orotate is safe, tolerable, and reaches the brain in 40 adults with early Alzheimer's disease. Participants will take the supplement or a placebo daily for 9 weeks, and researchers will measure side effects, medication adherence, and lithium levels in spinal fluid. The goal is to see if this approach is feasible for larger studies that might explore whether lithium can ease symptoms or slow the disease.
