Blood test may spot lung cancer mutations faster
NCT ID NCT04912687
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at whether a simple blood test (liquid biopsy) can detect EGFR gene mutations in people with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Researchers collected blood samples from 581 patients and compared the results with standard tissue testing. The goal was to see if adding the blood test helps find more patients who could benefit from targeted therapy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could make it easier and faster to detect treatable genetic mutations in lung cancer, helping doctors choose the right treatment sooner.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only tests a diagnostic method, so it won't directly improve outcomes. The blood test may miss some mutations found in tissue.
