Simple blood test could spot deadly bile duct cancers earlier
NCT ID NCT07176962
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study is testing a blood test that looks for DNA changes from tumors to help diagnose and manage biliary tract cancers, which are often found late and have a low survival rate. Researchers will enroll 1,800 participants with confirmed cancers to see how accurate the test is. If it works, it could lead to earlier detection and better monitoring of these aggressive cancers.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
blood test (cell-free DNA methylation liquid biopsy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this blood test could help detect biliary tract cancers earlier and monitor them more accurately, potentially improving survival rates.
What could go wrong
This is a large but still early-stage study; the test may not be accurate enough in real-world settings, and false positives or negatives could occur.
