New painkiller may offer longer relief after gallbladder surgery
NCT ID NCT07577934
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a long-acting painkiller (liposomal bupivacaine) works better than a standard one (ropivacaine) for pain after gallbladder removal. About 86 adults having laparoscopic cholecystectomy will receive one of the two drugs via a nerve block during surgery. Researchers will measure pain levels, recovery quality, and side effects over three months to see which option provides better pain control and faster recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- liposomal bupivacaine
- What this could lead to
- If liposomal bupivacaine works better, it could provide longer-lasting pain relief after gallbladder surgery, helping patients recover faster and possibly reducing the risk of long-term pain.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 86 people. The results may not apply to everyone, and there is no guarantee that liposomal bupivacaine will be more effective than the standard drug.
