Tongue-Side attachments may keep teeth Spot-Free during clear aligner treatment
NCT ID NCT07368296
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
White spot lesions are a common cosmetic problem during orthodontic treatment. This study tests whether placing the small composite attachments on the tongue side of clear aligners, instead of the front, reduces these spots. Fifty-two young adults with mild to moderate crowding are being followed to measure changes in tooth mineral loss and plaque buildup.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- lingual attachment placement
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a simple design change in clear aligners that reduces the risk of white spots on teeth.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 52 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. White spot prevention depends on many factors beyond attachment placement.
