Shining a light on gum disease: can light therapy boost standard treatment?

NCT ID NCT05252000

Summary

This study tested whether adding a special light therapy to the standard deep cleaning for gum disease improves results. Researchers compared the standard cleaning alone to cleaning plus the light treatment in 20 patients. They measured changes in gum bleeding, pocket depth, and the types of bacteria present to see if the light therapy helped more.
