Heart scans may help spot sepsis danger early

NCT ID NCT07562217

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study will test whether a special type of heart ultrasound can better predict serious outcomes in adults with sepsis in the ICU. Researchers will compare these new measurements with standard ones in 200 patients across four countries. Participants will have regular echocardiograms and be followed for up to one year. The goal is to see if this approach can identify high-risk patients more accurately.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to better ways to predict which sepsis patients are at highest risk, helping doctors make quicker treatment decisions.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks at whether heart ultrasound measurements relate to outcomes—it won't test a new therapy or change care directly.
