NCT ID NCT05664191
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether levosimendan, a heart medication that widens blood vessels, can reduce dangerous artery spasms and delayed brain injury after a type of bleeding stroke called aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Thirty adults in intensive care will receive either levosimendan or a placebo on day 1 and day 8. The study tracks complications like death, vasospasm, and delayed brain ischemia over 14 days.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Levosimendan
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a treatment to prevent brain damage after a bleeding stroke.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early pilot study with only 30 patients, so results may not be conclusive. The drug may not reduce complications or could cause side effects like low blood pressure or fast heart rate.
