Short course of letrozole before surgery reveals tumor hormone dependence

NCT ID NCT03747042

First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study involved 61 postmenopausal women with newly diagnosed, hormone-sensitive breast cancer. Participants took letrozole for 1 to 4 weeks before their standard surgery. The goal was not to treat the cancer directly, but to measure how much the tumor's growth slowed (using a marker called Ki67) to identify which cancers are highly hormone-dependent. This information helps doctors better understand the disease and may guide more personalized treatment in the future.
