Cancer breakthrough: could less surgery save faces and lives?

NCT ID NCT07320690

Summary

This study is testing whether patients with advanced head and neck cancer who respond well to initial immunotherapy can safely have less extensive surgery. The goal is to see if this 'de-escalated' surgery preserves more normal tissue and function—like speaking and swallowing—without lowering the 3-year survival rate compared to standard, more aggressive surgery. It will involve 356 patients at multiple hospitals.
