Can we predict who will suffer severe leptospirosis?
NCT ID NCT04034550
First seen Aug 20, 2026 · Last updated Aug 21, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows 200 hospitalized patients with suspected or confirmed leptospirosis, a bacterial infection spread by animals. Researchers will collect blood and urine samples and track patients for a year to gather data on the disease's symptoms, severity, and immune response. The goal is to better understand why some patients develop severe organ failure or die, which could help improve future care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Blood and urine sampling and blood banking
- What this could lead to
- This could lead to a deeper understanding of leptospirosis, potentially improving how doctors predict and manage severe cases.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, so it won't test a new treatment. It may not change clinical practice directly, and findings depend on the patient group studied.
