Brain bleed breakthrough? glue artery to stop return
NCT ID NCT05374681
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether injecting a medical glue into an artery in the brain can prevent chronic subdural hematomas from coming back. These are blood collections on the brain's surface that often recur after standard treatment. The trial will enroll 550 adults and compare glue embolization plus standard care against standard care alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cyanoacrylate glue
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way to reduce the chance that a chronic subdural hematoma comes back after medical or surgical treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a large trial, but the procedure involves threading a catheter into a brain artery, which carries risks like bleeding or stroke. The benefit over standard care is not yet proven.
