Immune cell therapy aims to stop BK virus bladder bleeding in transplant patients
NCT ID NCT07638332
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-phase trial tests a new treatment called LB-DTK-BKV for people who develop painful bladder bleeding (hemorrhagic cystitis) from BK virus after a stem cell transplant. The treatment uses immune cells from a donor that are trained to attack the virus. About 42 children and adults will receive two infusions of these cells and be monitored for 6 months to see if the virus levels drop and if side effects occur.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
LB-DTK-BKV (BK virus-specific T cells from a donor)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a targeted treatment for painful bladder bleeding caused by BK virus after stem cell transplants, reducing the need for harsh supportive care.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 1/2 trial with only 42 participants, so results may not apply widely. The treatment involves donor cells, which carry risks like infusion reactions or graft-versus-host disease.
