Summary
This small pilot study looked at whether inhaling nitrous oxide (laughing gas) could improve symptoms of major depression. Researchers used brain scans (MRIs) to see if the treatment changed brain activity and connections in 11 participants. They compared the effects of laughing gas to a sedative placebo over four weeks of weekly treatments.
