New combo therapy aims to personalize throat cancer treatment

NCT ID NCT07428148

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new approach for people with a certain type of throat cancer that is not low-risk. Participants first receive a combination of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and a special type of radiation called lattice radiotherapy. Then, based on how much the tumor shrinks, they get either a shorter or longer course of standard chemoradiation. The goal is to see if this personalized plan is safe and effective. About 60 people will take part in this early-phase trial.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

carboplatin, paclitaxel, pembrolizumab, and lattice radiotherapy

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a more personalized, effective treatment for throat cancer that reduces side effects by tailoring radiation dose to how well the tumor responds.

What could go wrong

This is an early-phase trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The combination therapy may cause significant side effects, and the optimal dose is still being determined.
