Laser light may soothe Post-Birth pain, new trial hopes to prove
NCT ID NCT07480083
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether low-level laser therapy can reduce pain and improve healing of perineal tears after vaginal birth. 206 new mothers will receive either real laser treatment or a sham (fake) treatment. Researchers will measure pain and wound healing right after birth and at 24 and 48 hours.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
low-level laser therapy (device)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer new mothers a drug-free option to ease pain and speed healing after childbirth tears.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial with 206 participants, so results may not apply to all women. The sham group may also show improvement, making it hard to prove the laser's benefit.
