Could a laser or hyaluronic acid boost gum disease healing?

NCT ID NCT05907161

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding low-level laser therapy or hyaluronic acid gel to standard deep-cleaning (scaling and root planing) improves gum healing in people with periodontitis. Forty-five non-smoking adults with untreated gum disease will be randomly assigned to one of three groups. The goal is to see if these add-ons reduce pocket depth and bleeding more than cleaning alone.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
low-level laser therapy and hyaluronic acid gel
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a better way to treat gum disease with less discomfort and faster healing.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 45 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The added treatments may not provide significant benefit over standard care.
