New laser technique aims to stop varicose veins from coming back
NCT ID NCT07449728
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests two different laser wavelengths (1470 nm and 1940 nm) for a procedure called laser crossectomy to treat varicose veins. The goal is to see which wavelength better prevents vein reflux from returning at the groin junction, while also checking for pain and side effects. About 400 adults with primary varicose veins will take part, and the results could help doctors choose the best laser for longer-lasting results.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
laser crossectomy (1470 nm or 1940 nm wavelength)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could establish a more effective laser technique to reduce the chance of varicose veins returning after treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-sized trial comparing two similar procedures, so any advantage may be small. Risks include pain, blood clots, or the procedure not working as expected.
