New combo pill aims to supercharge cholesterol lowering
NCT ID NCT07619118
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This Phase 3 trial tests whether a new combination pill containing laroprovstat and rosuvastatin lowers LDL cholesterol better than rosuvastatin alone. About 200 adults with high cholesterol and a history of heart disease or high risk will take either the combo or a placebo plus rosuvastatin daily for 8 weeks. The study measures changes in cholesterol levels and checks for side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
laroprovstat/rosuvastatin combination pill
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination pill could offer a more effective way to lower LDL cholesterol than current statin therapy alone, potentially reducing heart attack and stroke risk.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage Phase 3 trial with only 200 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The combination may cause more side effects than rosuvastatin alone, and it is not a cure—patients would need to take it long-term.
