Breath test breakthrough could end guesswork for IBS diets
NCT ID NCT04974593
Summary
This study is testing whether a hydrogen/methane breath test can predict if people with moderate to severe Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) will get better on a lactose-free diet. Researchers will enroll 90 IBS patients to see if the test results match their symptom improvement and quality of life changes after four weeks on the diet. The goal is to help doctors and patients know in advance if this specific dietary change is likely to work.
