Iron boost: lactoferrin may help female athletes recharge

NCT ID NCT07546591

First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at whether taking lactoferrin (a protein found in human milk) along with a small amount of iron can improve iron levels and exercise performance in women who exercise a lot and have low iron stores. About 30 women aged 18-45 will take either a low or high dose of lactoferrin plus iron, or just iron alone, for 8 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in iron levels, oxygen use, and how long they can exercise before getting tired.
