Can a standard adult antifungal drug work safely in kids with blood cancer?
NCT ID NCT07357038
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether liposomal amphotericin B (AmBisome) can safely treat breakthrough fungal infections in children and teens with blood cancers who are already on antifungal prevention. About 38 participants will receive the drug as part of their regular care, and researchers will track how well it works and any side effects. The goal is to see if results in children match those seen in adults.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
liposomal amphotericin B (AmBisome)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that liposomal amphotericin B is a safe and effective treatment for breakthrough fungal infections in children with blood cancers.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center observational study with only 38 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It compares to historical adult data, not a control group, so benefits and risks are uncertain.
