New painkiller may cut opioid use after knee surgery

NCT ID NCT07216586

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study compares two methods to control pain after total knee replacement: a new long-acting painkiller (Zynrelef) injected into the knee during surgery versus a standard nerve block. Researchers will measure how much opioid pain medication patients need in the first 72 hours after surgery. The goal is to find which approach provides better pain relief and reduces the need for strong opioids. 120 adults having knee replacement will take part.
