Which anesthesia works best for knee replacement pain? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07457814
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will observe 50 adults undergoing total knee replacement to see how different anesthesia methods affect pain and painkiller use in the first 48 hours after surgery. Participants receive either general anesthesia with a nerve block, spinal anesthesia with a nerve block, spinal anesthesia alone, or general anesthesia with an epidural. The goal is to identify which approach provides better pain control and fewer side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors choose the best anesthesia method to reduce pain and opioid use after knee replacement surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks at differences, not causes, and results may not apply to all patients.
