New study tests simpler pain relief for knee replacements

NCT ID NCT04828083

Summary

This study compared two methods for managing pain after knee replacement surgery. Researchers tested whether an intravenous lidocaine drip works as well as a targeted nerve block for reducing pain and opioid use after surgery. The trial involved 120 patients who were randomly assigned to receive one of these two pain control approaches. The goal was to find effective pain management options that might be more widely available than specialized nerve blocks.
