First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding specific nerve blocks (genicular and anterior femoral cutaneous) to standard pain management could reduce pain and the need for opioids after total knee replacement. 244 adults undergoing knee replacement were randomly assigned to receive the extra nerve blocks or standard care alone. The goal was to see if the blocks improved pain scores and lowered opioid use in the first 24 hours and up to 7 days after surgery.
