Knee cartilage repair: can ACI surgery get you moving again?
NCT ID NCT06921889
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows 47 adults who are scheduled for autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) to repair knee cartilage injuries. Researchers will measure knee movement, balance, and walking ability before surgery and again 6 months after. The goal is to understand how knee function changes after ACI and help set realistic expectations for recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (ACI) - a procedure using the patient's own cartilage cells to repair knee cartilage damage.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors and patients know what to expect after ACI surgery and identify common problems that physiotherapy might fix.
What could go wrong
This is a small, observational study (47 people) that only follows patients for 6 months. It does not test a new treatment or prove long-term benefits.
