Exercise retraining shows promise for stubborn back pain

NCT ID NCT07229287

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested a movement retraining program called kinetic control training in 46 adults with chronic sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Participants either received this training plus routine physical therapy or routine therapy alone. Researchers measured changes in pain, balance, walking, and endurance over 8 weeks. The goal was to see if focusing on core and hip muscle control could improve symptoms better than standard care.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a non-drug, exercise-based approach to ease pain and improve mobility for people with chronic sacroiliac joint dysfunction.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 46 participants. The results may not apply to everyone, and the benefits might be modest or no better than standard physical therapy.
