Can a simple tape boost sciatica recovery and balance?

NCT ID NCT07756905

First seen Aug 11, 2026 · Last updated Aug 12, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether adding kinesio tape to somatosensory motor control exercises improves pain, lower-back flexibility, balance, and daily function in people with sciatica. Adults aged 35-50 with a herniated disc in the lower back and leg pain lasting 3-6 months will receive either motor control exercises alone or the same exercises plus kinesio tape, three times a week for six weeks. Researchers will measure changes in pain, spinal range of motion, dynamic balance, and disability before and after treatment to see if the tape adds extra benefit.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
somatosensory motor control exercises with and without kinesio tape, plus conventional treatment
What this could lead to
If adding kinesio tape to motor control exercises proves effective, it could point toward a non-drug, low-cost way to ease sciatica pain and improve mobility and balance.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial, so results may not apply to everyone with sciatica. Kinesio tape is generally safe, but its added benefit over exercise alone is uncertain and may be minimal.
