Can kids lift weights safely? study tests muscle growth and bone health

NCT ID NCT06698055

Summary

This study aimed to understand how weight training affects muscle growth in children compared to adults, and to check if it is safe for children's developing bones. Healthy children (9-13 years) and adults (18-50 years) were assigned to either a control group, a traditional weight training group, or a flywheel training group for 12 weeks. Researchers used MRI scans to measure muscle growth and to see if the training had any negative impact on children's growth plates.
