Former patients guide others through kidney transplant maze
NCT ID NCT00805038
Summary
This study tested whether trained transplant recipients, acting as 'navigators,' could help other kidney failure patients complete the many steps needed to get a transplant. It involved about 170 adult patients on dialysis, comparing those who received help from a navigator with those who received usual care over two years. The goal was to see if personalized guidance could overcome common barriers, especially for minority, female, and low-income patients who often face greater difficulties accessing transplants.
