New suction tool may make kidney stone surgery safer and more effective

NCT ID NCT07286071

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tested two different devices used during surgery to remove kidney stones up to 20 mm. One is a traditional tube that lets fluid and stone fragments flow out passively, and the other is a newer tube that uses suction to actively pull out fragments and reduce pressure inside the kidney. 140 adults with a single kidney stone were randomly assigned to one of the two devices. The goal was to see which approach leads to better stone clearance, shorter surgery time, and fewer complications like infection or injury.
