First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looked at 174 older adults (ages 65-80) having lumbar fusion surgery to see if one type of IV fluid (sodium acetate Ringer's) protects the kidneys better than another (sodium lactate Ringer's). Researchers measured kidney injury markers in urine and blood after surgery. The goal was to find out which fluid might reduce the risk of acute kidney injury in this vulnerable group.
