Could ketamine make ICU breathing tube patients more comfortable and less confused?

NCT ID NCT06767358

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 03, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looks at whether adding a low-dose ketamine drip to standard sedation helps adults on breathing machines in the ICU. Ketamine treats both sedation and pain, possibly reducing delirium and the need for other drugs. About 54 patients across Canadian ICUs will be randomly assigned to get ketamine or a placebo, and researchers will track how long they need the breathing machine, survival, and side effects.
