Ketamine instead of general anesthesia: a solution to doctor shortages?

NCT ID NCT07443254

Summary

This study is testing whether specially trained radiologists can safely use a deep sedation drug called ketamine for certain imaging-guided procedures, instead of requiring full general anesthesia with an anesthesiologist. Researchers want to see if this approach works well for patients, reduces side effects, and helps address the national shortage of anesthesia providers. They will enroll up to 40 patients and measure success by whether the procedure can be completed without needing to switch to general anesthesia.
