First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested whether ketamine, a fast-acting medication, can reduce suicidal thoughts and behaviors in teenagers more quickly than standard treatments. Fifty adolescents aged 13-18 who had recently attempted suicide or had serious suicidal thoughts received either ketamine or a comparison drug (midazolam) twice a week for two weeks. The goal was to see if ketamine could prevent future suicidal events, like another attempt or hospitalization, over a 12-week period.
