Eye rubbing and keratoconus: new study tracks disease progression

NCT ID NCT05676580

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study follows 200 people with keratoconus, a condition that thins and bulges the cornea, for two years. Researchers will measure changes in the cornea, vision, and tear proteins, and look at risk factors like eye rubbing and allergies. Some participants will have surgery (cross-linking or corneal ring implants), while others will only receive advice to avoid rubbing their eyes. The goal is to better understand how the disease progresses and what influences it.
