Immune protein infusion tested to stop agony of sickle cell crises

NCT ID NCT01757418

Summary

This study tested whether a single dose of an immune protein therapy (IVIG) could safely shorten severe pain crises in people with sickle cell disease. About 300 children and adults were given either IVIG or a placebo saline solution during a hospital stay for a pain crisis. Researchers measured how long the crisis lasted, how much pain medication was needed, and checked for safety.
