First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looked at whether measuring the size of a large vein (the inferior vena cava) using an ultrasound through the liver can predict if a patient needs more fluids. The goal is to avoid giving too much fluid, which can be harmful. The study included 40 adults in the ICU after high-risk heart surgery. Researchers compared this new method with the standard approach to see how well it works.
