Could an iron boost before surgery cut transfusions for teens?

NCT ID NCT07217873

Summary

This study is testing if giving teens with iron deficiency an IV iron dose before major spinal fusion surgery for scoliosis helps them recover better. Researchers want to see if this simple step reduces the need for blood transfusions during surgery and improves thinking skills and physical strength after the operation. The goal is to find a safe way to improve outcomes for these young patients and reduce reliance on blood donations.
