Old drug, new target: fungus fighter joins war on deadly esophageal cancer

NCT ID NCT05563766

Summary

This study is testing whether adding a common antifungal drug, itraconazole, to standard chemotherapy and radiation can help eliminate more cancer before surgery for esophageal cancer. Researchers believe the drug may block cancer growth pathways and make tumors more sensitive to standard treatments. The goal is to see if this combination leads to more patients having no detectable cancer left at the time of their surgery.
