NCT ID NCT07654569

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a web-based program called YOLO, based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), can help university students manage psychological distress, anxiety, and academic stress. Around 1,000 students from the University of Bologna will either get immediate access to the program or join a waitlist. The program includes four weekly online modules focused on values, mindfulness, and acceptance. Researchers will measure changes in depression, anxiety, well-being, and academic outcomes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
web-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) program
What this could lead to
If effective, this online program could offer a scalable, low-cost way to support mental health for university students who face barriers to in-person care.
What could go wrong
This is a single-site study with a waitlist control, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is brief (4 modules) and may not be enough for students with severe distress.
