Which muscle therapy works best for stroke recovery? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07273201
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether focusing on individual muscles or groups of muscles works better for helping people regain arm function after a stroke. Forty acute stroke patients will receive either isolated muscle training with biofeedback or synergetic (group) muscle training, plus standard physical therapy, for six weeks. Researchers will measure improvements in coordination, dexterity, and movement speed.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
physical therapy program (range of motion exercises, electrical muscle stimulation, stretching, mental practice, and EMG biofeedback)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show which type of muscle therapy better helps stroke survivors regain arm movement and coordination.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke patients. The therapies are standard care, so no dramatic breakthrough is expected.
